Through the Diversity Initiative for Cultural Inclusion (DICI), NUNU, working with area partners, helps to narrow the divide between heritage groups found within Louisiana, in particular within the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area.
The diverse platform shares the roles played in helping to build the uniqueness of LA through the celebration of achievements made and being made in both the past and present as well as the creation of places, buildings, works, relics, moveable objects, and precincts of local heritage and significance. And can include natural and built heritage and objects, and cultural heritage such as stories, traditions, language, and events inherited from the past.
Inspired by the French phrase d’ici which means “from here,” the DICI initiative supports the creation of monthly heritage tables/gatherings at the NUNU collective and other locations along Corridor des Arts on Saturdays through marketing and promotion as well as access to the NUNU collective if a venue is not otherwise available.
At these heritage tables, participants share experiences and expertise, participate in language learning, and develop skills in a variety of cultural expressions. Monthly DICI tables provide all participants with the opportunity to learn more about who they are as well as experience cultures other than that with which they are familiar.
We invite cultural heritage groups to submit their proposals to conduct recurring heritage tables.
Can I start my own heritage table?
Yes, simply contact us and submit your proposal in writing.
